Note that we
picked these stocks based on the criteria above.
If those criteria are not as important to you, then you
can always pick others. Also, we selected
funds that are still open to new accounts. Several
funds were earning better returns than these, but they
are closed to new investors.
There is a lot to know
about mutual funds in general. After you have
invested in one of these large caps, you can start
learning about the other, more lucrative (and more
risky) ones. Without sounding too much like a real
estate agent, here are 3 important things to do before
buying any mutual fund:
Read the Prospectus,
Read the Prospectus,
Read the Prospectus
The Prospectus (very much
like prospecting gold in "them thar
hills") is a document that tells you the small
print about what is going on in a mutual fund, what
stocks they are investing in, who is managing the fund,
how long he/she has been the manager, etc. Reading
these babies will be difficult at first, but just do
it! The more you do it, the better you get...you
can get a good education about investments by just
reading these!
